The LoTi Classroom Teacher
represents a series of online courses designed for classroom teachers and mentors to improve and refine the manner in which 21st Century Skills are used to promote student engagement and achievement. The LoTi Classroom Teacher series explores the concepts of higher order thinking skills, differentiation, collaboration, and the use of technology to build effective communities of inquiry that help students develop 21st Century Skills and improve their academic achievement. This series lets participants engage in structured reflection within a networked environment involving other K-12 educators implementing similar instructional strategies. Participants are able to design lesson plans and instructional units representing the higher levels of technology implementation (LoTi) as well as catalogue specific resources that support this pivotal use of technology in the classroom. The LoTi Classroom Teacher Series is comprised of three courses:
LCT I: LoTi Foundations & Pedagogy: The LoTi Classroom Teacher I: LoTi Foundations and Pedagogy course provides a foundation for understanding the LoTi Framework and philosophy; and how that philosophy relates specifically to the whole student. Themes in this course include factors influencing student success, learning modalities, and higher-order/complex thinking skill strategies. Participants will engage in focus activities, readings, discussions and assignments that support each theme. The culminating activity is a student case study that integrates the course themes and provides the foundation for ongoing activities in the LCT series.
LCT II: LoTi Level 3+ Implementation Strategies:
Building upon the foundation from LCT I, the LoTi Classroom Teacher II: LoTi 3+ Implementation Strategies course focuses on the use of instructional strategies and tools to implement classroom activities that represent a LoTi Level 3 (Infusion) and above based on the LoTi Framework. Participants will engage in focus activities, readings, discussions and assignments as well as design/implement a performance-based assessment that enables them to explore the use of various technology tools with limited resources.
LCT III: LoTi Level 4+ Implementation Strategies:
The final course in the LCT series, the LoTi Classroom Teacher III: LoTi 4+ Implementation Strategies course integrates the ideas from LCT I and II, and encourages participants to create learning experiences at LoTi Level 4 (Integration) and above. Using collaborative learning tools such as blogs and wikis, participants explore engaging questioning strategies and are introduced to the EBAM Model for designing experientially-based instructional units. The culminating activity for this course is the creation and implementation of an EBAM (Experiential-Based Action Model) unit in the classroom.
This course series includes three 45 hour sessions of asynchronous online learning for each participant. This course series is sequential; although participants may take each individual course in a non-contiguous term, the courses can not be taken out of sequence. Facilitator honorarium is also included.
